2009 mercedes-benz c-class review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Mercedes dynamics and comfort in a small package. introductionthe 2009 mercedes-benz c-class brings multiple refinements. The 2009 c-class is composed of the c300 luxury, c300 luxury 4matic, c300 sport, c300 sport 4matic, c350 sport, and c63 amg.  the c-class was completely redesigned for 2008. The c-class has levels of driver feedback, the steering in particular, that it never had before; it has always been rock-solid and so stable it was hard to get in trouble, and it still is, but the driver now has far better grasp, literally and figuratively, on what the car is doing. And it does this without taking away any of the refinement or comfort that makes driving one a fatigue-free process.  the c-class is not a big car; taller than average families or business-people that routinely transport clients may find they still need an e-class. All save the c300 sport sedan come with an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive is available on any 300 with an automatic. lineupthe 2009 mercedes-benz c300 comes as a sport sedan 32,900), luxury sedan 34,650), 4matic all-wheel drive sport 36,200) and 4matic luxury 36,450). All come with a 228-hp 3-liter v6. The c300 sport comes with a six-speed manual gearbox, the others with a seven-speed automatic available on the sport 1460).  sport sedans use a different grille with the mercedes-benz ringed star in it as opposed to the luxury with the star on the hood, and sport cars use amg-style deeper front air dams, side skirts and rear aprons. All c300s come with 17-inch alloy wheels but sport cars use wider rear tires and wheels, sit more than half an inch lower, use firmer suspension settings and get a three-spoke steering wheel.  the c300 sport comes with dual-zone climate control, synthetic upholstery, tilt/telescoping multifunction wheel, power windows/locks/heated mirrors, moonroof, eight-way power sport seats, front and rear fog lamps, cruise control, trip computer/maintenance minder, am/fm/weather/cd audio system with aux input, bluetooth, leather-wrapped wheel and shifter, alarm, central controller, five-inch flip-up color display, and aluminum trim.  options on c300 sport include metallic paint 720), gray/black walnut trim 310), leather upholstery 1570), teleaid 650), 6cd changer 460), ipod integration 375), panorama roof 1050). Premium package 1 2150) includes sirius, heated front seats, auto-dimming mirrors, ugdo, rain-sensing wipers, power tilt/telescope and driver memory system, premium 2 3500) includes premium 1 plus bi-xenon headlamps with heated washers and cornering lights, split-fold 60/40 rear seat, power rear shade. The multimedia package 2980) includes comand navigation and seven-inch screen, 450-watt harman/kardon surround audio system, voice control, 6cd/mp3 changer.  c300 sport 4matic adds all-wheel drive, automatic transmission and a heated washer reservoir. Options mirror the rear-drive sport except for 18-inch wheels.  the luxury c300 replaces the sport seats and aluminum trim with cushier seats and burl walnut trim; the 4matic adds the same pieces as the sport 4matic. Options include the p2 package 1350), metallic paint, leather upholstery, teleaid, 6cd changer, ipod integration, panorama roof, multimedia package and 18-inch wheels with wider rear tires than c300 sports.  the c63 amg 56,300 plus required $2100 federal gas-guzzler tax) comes with a 6. 2-liter 451-hp v8, amg speedshift seven-speed transmission, 18-inch wheels and high-performance tires, and unique brakes, suspension, steering, sport seats with adjustable side bolsters, amg instrumentation and aluminum shift paddles behind the sport steering wheel. Cosmetically and mechanically it is a different car from the windshield forward. The c63 standard feature list is close to the c350 sport sedan. Options include metallic paint 720), premium leather 2980), p2 1100), multimedia 2980), ipod, carbon fiber trim 2500) and the performance p30 package 3990) locking differential, composite brakes, leather/alcantara steering wheel, 186-mph limiter.  safety equipment includes dual adaptive frontal airbags, front side thorax airbags, front side pelvic airbags (except on c63), side curtain airbags, active front head restraints, presafe system, electronic stability control and full traction and brake electronic assists. Apart from the v6 engines, transmissions and those three-pointed stars little was carried forward.  while larger than its predecessor its dimensions reflect the class; very similar to bmw's 3-series and just a couple of inches shorter and less wheelbase than audi's 2009 a4. This is more evident on sport c models with the star in the grille than it is on the luxury models with more chrome and the traditional hood ornament. Wheels play a big part too, the sport cars using twin-spoke wheels with some attitude while the luxury versions use finer more elegant wheels.  closing the door brings a different sound than the old bank vault benzes did, perhaps because the outer skin of the doors, hood, front fenders and trunk is aluminum. 2003 volkswagen gti review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. It's agile and responsive, making it fun to drive. Upscale trim and a high level of standard equipment make for a comfortable and sophisticated experience.  two people can sit comfortably in the back seats. The tdi diesel boasts an epa-rated 42/49 mpg. Others are quick or downright fast. The gti is a true driver's car. The 1. 8 t delivers 180 horsepower, while the vr6 boasts 200 hp.  according to volkswagen of america, the golf continues to be one of the safest cars in its category. Three trim levels are available, gl, gls, and gti. Golf gl comes standard with the 115-horsepower engine and 5-speed manual transmission, but is available with a 4-speed automatic 16,170). A five-speed manual transmission is standard in both the gl and gls. Also available is the electronic stabilization program 280), a system that uses sophisticated sensors and microprocessors to stabilize the vehicle in a sudden emergency maneuver. A third option, currently offered on the gls and available later in the model year on the gl, is the cold weather package 150) with heated front seats and heated windshield washer nozzles.  gti is the hot-rod of the line and comes only in the two-door body style. It's comes with the 1. 8 t engine and is available with the manual transmission 18,910) or tiptronic automatic 19,985). It's also available with the 200-hp vr6 engine and 6-speed manual gearbox 21,775). The electronic stabilization program (esp) is an option on the 1. 8 t model and standard on the vr6. Gti 1. 8 t comes standard 16-inch alloy wheels, while 17-inch alloy wheels are an option on the 1. 8 t 400) and standard on the vr6.  options on both the gti 1. 8 t and the vr6 include the cold weather package; the leather package 900), which includes leather upholstery and items in the cold weather package; and the luxury package 1,240), consisting of a power sunroof and the monsoon sound system. Available as an option only on the vr6 is the technology package 755), which includes electronic climate control, a self-dimming rearview mirror, and rain-sensing automatic windshield wipers.  . walkaroundsmall enough to tuck easily into tight parking spaces with relative ease, volkswagen golf looks stylish and distinctive as well as practical.  with its roofline extended over its rear wheels, the golf provides a surprisingly large storage space and more than ample rear headroom. Historically, hatchbacks have been hugely popular in europe, perhaps the most popular body style there. Hatchbacks offer some of the functional benefits of station wagons, including easy access to cargo through side doors and the rear hatch.  . interiorgolf comes with an unusually high level of standard equipment, including anti-lock disc brakes and side-impact airbags. It also comes with a high level of refinement. Forget the grained plastic wood found in many cars. This trim is the real thing. Stylish instruments look like aircraft components at night with vibrant red needles over richly backlit indigo gauges. Power windows with auto-up and auto-down are normally not found in this class.  there's plenty of storage space, with a large glove box, deep door pockets and a center tray that's useful for stowing cellular telephones. Golf's cup holders are well placed and adequate for most container sizes. More side bolstering would help brace driver and passenger in tight corners, however. Seating adjustments are trademark volkswagen, with its unique jack to adjust seat height; they are a bit difficult to use at first with an awkward knob for adjusting rake, but familiarity improves this.  the optional monsoon sound system with eight speakers is among the best factory stereos we've heard, with crisp highs and snappy bass response.  rear seats, with height-adjustable headrests, seem surprisingly roomy with plenty of headroom for all but the tallest passengers. There isn't much stretch-out legroom, but the seats are unusually high off the floor, which makes the available space more comfortable than in many other compacts. Three-point seat belts are used in all three positions in the rear, an excellent safety feature normally found on more expensive luxury cars.  cargo space is generous, 18 cubic feet with the rear seats in place. Flip the articulated rear seat bottom, remove the rear headrests and fold one or both rear seat backs down to create a cavernous space capable of carrying even more cargo, 41. 8 cu. The split rear seat allows carrying one rear passenger along with luggage and long items like skis or fly rods. A cargo cover shields possessions from prying eyes when the rear seats are flipped into place.  . driving impressionspirited and responsive, the volkswagen golf is a lot of fun to drive. The driving experience is colored by engine and transmission choice, so choose carefully.  the 180-horsepower 1. 8 t is a joy when paired with the manual gearbox. It's quick, at times abrupt, but incredibly smooth. It delivers brisk, off-the-line acceleration. There's a surprising amount of torque available, more than enough to spin the front wheels. Traction control steps in when needed to minimize this, enhancing control. In spite of its power, it nets an epa-rated 24/31 mpg city/highway.  accelerating through the gears, there is some turbo lag down at the bottom of the rev range. With the turbocharged engine, there is little torque available below 2000 rpm. It starts to build at 2500 rpm and comes on quickly after that, but it isn't the explosion of power that big turbochargers deliver. It's more like the progressive acceleration of a smaller turbo, more fluid and linear.  we have issues about pairing the 1. 8 t with the five-speed automatic tiptronic transmission 1075). The automatic seems to get confused by the turbo in city traffic, often leaving the engine caught out, bogging just when we wanted quick response. When asked for moderate acceleration, the transmission would downshift, there would be a surge of power, i'd ease off the throttle, the transmission would upshift, the engine would eventually bog again, and the process would start all over. It's far more subtle than the description above suggests, but it annoyed me on downtown streets. This car is too good to be saddled with this combination. Therefore, we strongly recommend the manual gearbox with the 1. 8 t. We recommend pairing the automatic with one of the other two engines, which are naturally aspirated (non-turbocharged).  gti vr6 comes with volkswagen's innovative, narrow-angle v6 engine that delivers 195 foot-pounds of torque. It feels flexible, holding its own in traffic, and is comfortable when cruising steadily at 80 mph. It isn't an engine that inspires enthusiast drivers, however. The 2. 0-liter engine is epa rated at 24/31 mpg city/highway: good, but no better than the gti's 1. 8 t engine. Its relatively low price still makes the 2. 0-liter a good value, however. 2004 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. New turbos bring affordable power. introductionthe chrysler pt cruiser has become a familiar sight. The cruiser combines the retro looks of a late-1930's american sedan with modern styling and features. It made a big splash when it was introduced as a 2001 model. That was back in march 2000, and chrysler has been selling more than 135,000 of them a year. In spite of this, the pt cruiser still attracts attention. People are intrigued by the cruiser's difficult-to-define character. Chrysler says the pt cruiser is too cool to categorize. It boasts the interior volume of a sport-utility vehicle. Pull the rear seats out and it'll haul a load of building materials or a big tv box. Yet it's shorter in length than many compact cars, making it easy to park. It's also easy on gas.  adding to the fun is the driving experience. The cruiser is based on the dodge neon, a compact car noted for sprightly performance. New turbo models add fire under the hood. The gt (aka pt turbo) features a 220-horsepower engine that gives the cruiser a real boost. We also like affordability. On the downside, the pt cruiser has all the refinement of a compact car.  new features are available for the 2004 models to enhance the cruiser's sophistication. An optional power convenience group 705) adds remote keyless entry, automatic power central locking, and power exterior mirrors, and cruise control. The gt also comes with side-impact airbags and most of the limited edition's luxury goodies. A new option for 2004 is sirius satellite radio, which is offered on all models. The cost of the receiver 325) includes a one-year subscription. Also new for 2004 is uconnect, chrysler group's hands-free, in-vehicle communications system 360), which uses bluetooth technology to link the user's cellular phone with the cruiser's stereo speakers. Appearance packages include woodgrain exterior accents, the chrome accent group (expanded for 2004), and the chrome-and-leather dream cruiser 3. walkaroundthe chrysler pt cruiser blends the retro look of a late-1930's american sedan with new-age styling cues such as dual-beam flush headlights and teardrop-shaped taillight lenses. But that's not all there is to the pt cruiser. The shape is intriguing, but underneath is a modern platform with front-wheel drive.  by exterior dimensions, the pt cruiser is quite compact. It's nearly 6 inches shorter than a neon subcompact. Yet with 63 inches from pavement to the highest point of its roof, the cruiser is also 7 inches taller than the neon, and nearly as tall as some minivans. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design.  the gt is distinguished from the other models by its chrome exhaust tips, larger grille and air intakes, and a spoiler on its liftgate; however, the spoiler 150) is an option on the other models. interiorthe pt cruiser pulls its exterior styling themes into the cabin with painted inserts on its t-shaped symmetrical dashboard. The driver faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right and fuel and water temperature left. The gt's silver-faced speedometer reads up to 140 mph, while the standard cruiser's speedo goes to 110.  accessory switches are concentrated in the center panel, with radial-type climate control dials. The door levers have a nice action, and the switches operate with good tactile feel, though they're not world class. The stereo sounds tinny. Also, there's a separate set button for the station presets, fussier than simply holding the preset down.  a bonus of the cruiser's tall profile is its upright seating position, with a fairly high view ahead, somewhat like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. The front seats in the three lower-line models have a reasonable amount of bolstering to keep driver and passenger from sliding side to side. The gt also features a chrome-spoked, leather wrapped steering wheel, and chrome pedals.  roominess is a virtue in the cruiser. Its 121. 5 cubic feet of interior volume is comparable to that of large cars such as the mercedes-benz s-class or lincoln town car. Much of that space is a function of the cruiser's height. The roof rises toward the rear like on a chopped-top hot rod.  to take advantage of this, the rear seat bottoms are higher than those in front, resulting in what what the industry calls theater seating. The front seats are mounted on tall boxes, leaving plenty of room for rear passengers to stretch their legs underneath. A six-foot, nine-inch passenger can fit comfortably in the front or rear seats.  chrysler claims the pt cruiser's cabin can be configured 26 different ways. This flexibility stems from three features: a 65/35 split rear bench that can be folded flat, tumbled forward or removed; a movable parcel shelf; and an available front passenger seat that folds flat. The rear seats are anchored with quick-release attachments for easy removal. Suitcase handles and steel wheels make it easier to stash them in the garage and move them about. The smaller seat weighs 35 pounds, but the larger section weighs a hefty 65 pounds. The cruiser can provide up to 64 cubic feet of cargo volume. Still, a mountain bike doesn't really fit without removing the front wheel, removing the rear seats, or both. Seatbelts should always be worn, however, and the pt cruiser comes with three-point safety harnesses at all positions, including the rear center position. The front belts have pyrotechnically charged tensioner. driving impressionthe pt cruiser is fun to drive. In essence, it's a tall, practical economy car, but the pt cruiser goes relatively quickly. The standard engine is rated at 150 horsepower and 165 pounds-feet of torque. This is enough power to propel. 2005 dodge magnum review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The term 'crossover vehicle' has been thrown around a lot the last couple years, meant to apply to those suvs that are leaning in the direction of cars and/or minivans. But the tag is too vague to mean much. Suddenly, with the new dodge magnum, it fits. This is the car that has the capability to wean the country off of suvs. Its bold hot-rod lines might scare people away, but its utility can't be denied. It's a full-size american car with spacious cargo capacity and available all-wheel drive. And it's engineered for safety. It's got image and utility. If that isn't what people want when they buy an suv, what do they want?  plus, it gets better gas mileage than full-size suvs. The magnum comes standard with a 190-horsepower double-overhead-cam v6 that gets 21-28 miles per gallon, at a stunning base price of $22,495 including destination. In fact, it excels in all those areas. lineupthree dodge magnum models are available. The se 21,870) is nicely equipped for its price. Standard equipment includes premium cloth interior, air conditioning, power windows and locks with remote entry, a 60/40 split rear seat with center armrest, am/fm/cd sound system, tilt-telescoping steering column, solar control window glass, rack-and-pinion steering, 17-inch wheels and disc brakes. Equipment-wise, the sxt most notably adds the magic combination of abs with brake assist, all-speed traction control and electronic stability. It uses a five-speed automatic transmission with autostick, designed by mercedes and built in the u. The r/t adds to the sxt features a leather interior, bigger and beefier brakes, 18-inch polished aluminum wheels, dual exhausts, foglights, and a boston acoustics premium six-speaker sound system with a 288-watt digital amplifier.  optional equipment includes a power passenger seat, heated front seats, dual zone automatic climate control, electronic vehicle information center, electrochromic rearview mirror, front and rear air curtains, air filtration, self-sealing tires, hands-free cellphone capability, power adjustable pedals, gps navigation system with integrated six-disc cd/mp3 player, sirius satellite radio, sunroof and load-leveling shocks. walkaroundthe styling of the magnum is so distinctive that a picture will say far more than words can. It's a long, low, beefy station wagon on a wide track with big bold grille and a chopped top. It would be an understatement to say the magnum has presence. And that's what it is: a crossover between sports car and station wagon. More accurately, the dodge magnum is a crossover between muscle car and station wagon. The headlamp units are a nice integrated wedge shape. We like them better than those on the new chrysler 300, the magnum's sister car, which try harder to be retro. The air dam/bumper cover wraps up under the headlamps and grille, and looks impressively beefy and functional.  from the side, the magnum looks like it could be rolled onto the floor of a hot rod show. The wheel cutouts are profound, and especially imposing with the 18-inch 10-spoke wheels on the rt. But a bigger visual effect is created by the tinted glass and roofline sloping back and pinching the rear window. This serves an innovative purpose. The one-piece liftgate is hinged about two feet up into the roof, providing a vast and liberating opening to the cargo area. Dodge lists the cargo capacity as 27. 2 cubic feet with the rear seats up and 71. 6 cubic feet with them down, while the epa interior volume indicates 133. 1 cubic feet. We did and the cargo area looks wider, flatter, longer and easier to access than most suvs. There was room to do so, only 10 percent less than in the front seat, according to the sae volume index. The 60/40 split rear seat holds three, but a wide armrest with cupholders drops down to make it more comfortable for two. The center stack was clean and tidy in black, with buttons that were easy to click and knobs where knobs should be, for the climate control and radio. The console compartment is decent sized, and contains practical coinholders. There's also a sunglasses holder within the driver's reach. And speaking of specialized holders, the cargo area includes a nook designed for holding a one-gallon milk jug, and grocery bags.  but mostly the magnum feels great from the driver's seat, which is firm and comfortable. With a similar long hood, and identical wheelbase, for some reason, from behind the wheel the magnum doesn't feel as big as the chrysler 300. driving impressionthe dodge magnum was a car we didn't want to stop driving. All that horsepower, all that torque, great tight handling, solid comfortable ride, very enjoyable instrument panel and steering wheel and seats.  the five-speed automatic transmission, designed by mercedes, upshifted sharply and smoothly, but even in the autostick mode it sometimes upshifted before we wanted it to. The engine felt easily underworked at that speed. Numbers and charts notwithstanding, this is an engine that feels like it wants to rev. Although by the same token, the 340 horsepower peaks at just 5000 rpm, so revving past 5500 would seem to be unnecessary. It was just so much fun. We should add that we were testing a pre-production magnum, and it's possible that showroom models may be programmed to shift at 5800, not 5500.  even with all that power and torque, the acceleration isn't neck-snapping; the magnum has a very tall final drive ratio of 2. 82, which is great for gas mileage and quiet running, but tempers acceleration. There were times it felt like it had 340 horsepower, and times it didn't. There were more times that it didn't feel like it had 390 pound-feet of torque, which might be because the torque peaks at a relatively high level, 4000 rpm. With torque peaking at 4000 and horsepower peaking at 5000, there's a relatively small area of maximum happy performance for such a big engine. We're not complaining, merely lamenting what could be. And no doubt will, with aftermarket tuners.  they'll also find grippier tires for the magnum. As the tires lost their limited bite, the esp cut the throttle on us. With grippier tires it's unlikely that intrusion would occur. This car warrants sport or high-performance tires, though they may not last as long or work as well in the winter.  we also felt the front wheels bouncing at times, which was the only blemish on an otherwise grea. 2008 mercedes-benz clk-class review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Stylish coupes and convertibles great for many roles. introductionthe mercedes-benz clk feels right in just about any role. Those who prefer understated, buttoned-down elegance will like the clk coupe. Extroverts and sun worshippers can choose the one-button convertible top on the clk cabriolet.  new for 2008 is the limited–edition clk black series with a 500-horsepower engine. The v8 engines are still new yet now tested, having been introduced for the 2007 model year.  the clk is one of the sportiest cars in the mercedes lineup. The clk has rear-wheel drive in a class increasingly populated by front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive cars, and it has a sporting flair many mid-size luxury cars lack.  we think most drivers will be quite happy with the clk350 and its 268-horsepower v6. With its seven-speed automatic, the clk350 delivers a fine balance of spirited acceleration, quiet cruising and decent fuel mileage. The clk350 gets an epa-rated 17/25 mpg city/highway.  drivers who demand more performance can choose the clk550. Its v8 generates 382 hp and an even more impressive 391 pound-feet of torque. (torque is that force that launches the car from intersections and propels it up hills.) measured by acceleration and engine response, the clk550 meets just about any standard of high performance. The clk550 transmits a feeling of being more stuck to the road than the clk350 does, with sharper handling and better high-speed stability.  meanwhile, the limited-production clk63 amg performs magnitudes better, delivering racecar levels of performance. Yet around town it's incredibly docile and belies its 475-hp amg engine. The clk63 amg black series kicks it up just a notch, boasting 500 hp.  on the open road, the clk, no matter the model, is satisfying, responsive and exceptionally stable at high speeds. It inspires confidence on twisty roads and bears up well in a spirited drive. It's also easy to live with. Its ride is firm, but not intrusive. Its relatively small size makes it easy to park and maneuver in crowded city centers, but its back seat is roomy enough for two adults.  in a word, the clk is balanced. Its stylish design and elegant interior make it a pleasant place to spend time, and it delivers mercedes cachet that works in almost any circumstance. lineupthe 2008 mercedes-benz clk comes in coupe and convertible body styles. Three models are available, distinguished by engine size: clk350, clk550, clk63amg. All come with a seven-speed automatic transmission that can be shifted manually with buttons on the steering wheel.  the clk350 coupe 46,450) and cabriolet 54,500) are powered by a 3. 5-liter v6, which develops 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.  standard features include leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control with pollen and dust filter, 10-way adjustable power seats with three memory settings and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Black-stained ash wood trim is standard, and more traditional burl walnut is available as a no-charge option. The cabriolet features a fully automatic, heavily insulated convertible top.  the clk550 coupe 55,150) and cabriolet 63,200) get the 5. 5-liter engine that generates 382 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque.  the clk63 amg 89,500) is available as a cabriolet and as the black series 135,000). Both are built by a single technician at mercedes racing subsidiary amg.  options are grouped in three packages: premium i, ii, and iii. Exact content and price vary with the model. On the clk350 coupe, premium i 2,530) includes auto-dimming mirrors, a programmable built-in garage door opener, a premium harman/kardon stereo with six-cd changer and a glass sunroof. Premium ii 3,630) adds turning bi-xenon headlights with washers and a heated windshield washer system. Premium iii 4630) includes everything in pi and pii, plus ventilated seats.  stand-alone options include a navigation system combined with on-screen control for the stereo and air conditioning 2,270); sirius satellite radio 510); hands-free telephone communication 925); wood and leather steering wheel 540); heated front seats 700); electronic trunk closer 520); and keyless go push-button starting 1,100). For that extra special touch, designo silver edition and graphite edition trim packages are available 7,050).  safety features that come on all clks include multi-stage front-impact airbags. Coupes get front passenger side-impact airbags that protect the torso, and curtain-style head protection airbags for both front and rear passengers. The convertibles combine both torso and head protection in the same side-impact airbags. The also feature pop-up rollbars that automatically deploy if the electronics sense a pending rollover. Teleaid accident notification is standard. Side-impact airbags for the rear passengers are optional 390). Anti-lock brakes (abs) with emergency brake assist and electronic stability control are standard. The clk looks forceful, but also elegant and sophisticated, and it blends form and function nicely. Under the rear half of its sweeping roofline is a back seat with room for two adults, not the parcel shelf that passes for a seat in some high-end coupes.  the clk is a fairly compact car, based on a lengthened version of the same chassis used for the small mercedes c-class sedans. Yet the designers have successfully infused it with the presence and bearing of a much larger coupe like the big mercedes cl.  the coupe aesthetic starts with the profile. The clk dispenses with a center roof pillar, so the roof sweeps uninterrupted from the base of the windshield to the trunk lid. The rear windows lower completely below the sill, emphasizing the smooth, open flow, and the effect is enhanced by the absence of any visible antenna for the radio, telephone or navigation system. The clk replaces a conventional steel trunk lid with a composite panel that allows the antennas to be imbedded the lid's structure.  the second, unmistakable coupe element is the clk's front end. This mercedes forgoes the traditional hood ornament in favor of a lower, much larger three-pointed star embedded in the wide, three-slat grille, which greets the world with just a hint of a sneer. And there's more to the headlights than slick design. The optional bi-xenon lights swivel to point into curves and are equipped with high-pressure washing jets; they also change beam angle as the clk moves up and down with road imperfections, keeping the high-intensity light below the sight line of the drivers in oncoming cars.  when its fabric top is closed, the clk cabriolet is nearly identical in silhouette to the coupe, with only a hint of a break in the roofline where it meets the trunk lid. The fabric top is fully lined and insulated, and opening or closing it is a one-button operation. Roughly 30 seconds after the driver hits the button, the top tucks neatly under a hard cover behind the rear seats. Rollover protection hoops are integrated in the rear-seat headrests, allowing the same clean look when the top is down. In the event of an imminent collision or rollover in the cabriolet, two roll bars deploy and lock in place within 0. 3 seconds.  details distinguish the clk models. The clk350 has neutral-tinted glass and gray vanes in its grille, while the clk550 has blue-tinted glass, high-gloss black vanes with chrome trim on the grille, and a short rear spoiler. The hotrod clk63 amg sports a front valance with three separate sections, mesh grillwork and flared rocker panels between the wheels.  the clk350 and clk550 come with 17-inch wheels, slightly wider with fatter tires in back, to create the staggered-wheel look of a race car. The wheels on the clk350 are a light-alloy five-spoke design. Those on the clk550 feature an amg-styled monoblock design. The clk63 amg has 18-inch wheels in a highly polished double-spoke pattern with lower profile z-rated tires.  the optional sport appearance package for the clk350 includes special 10-spoke aluminum wheels, a sports suspension that lowers the clk slightly, and cross-drilled brake rotors that are visible through the wheels. The brake calipers are painted with mercedes script. interiorthe mercedes-benz clk is a fairly compact car, but there is enough space and seat adjustment inside to accommodate very tall people in front. Generally, the cabin has the look and feel of success.  materials are very good throughout. Soft polyurethane sprayed onto the dashboard provides an attractive appearance and a luxurious feel. Black-stained ash wood trim and black carpet is standard, though traditional burl walnut is available at no charge. Nice touches of wood and gathered leather on the door panels make for a very attractive cabin.  when front passengers close the doors, an electric arm on each side of the clk extends to present the seatbelts, making it easier to reach the belts. The belt presenters retract once the belts are buckled. It works well, though we've seen passengers startled by them, fearing the return of the motorized mouse.  most controls and switches, including climate adjustments and audio, are stacked in the center of the dash above the console. They're easy to locate and big enough. Climate Control✔ Power Seats✔ Anti-lock Brakes✔ CD Changer✔ Air Conditioning✔ Navigation System✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Aluminum Wheels

2002 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. And it’s practical, too. introductionit was only a matter of time. This year, as if the pt cruiser needed something to make it stand out, chrysler is offering flames as an option. Or maybe just go back in time.  flames or no flames, there's nothing on the road quite like the pt cruiser. Though it has become a familiar site, it still attracts attention., and that's a big part of its fun. People from all walks and stations want a better look, intrigued by the cruiser's difficult-to-define character. It is, as chrysler says, too cool to categorize.  yet the really great thing about the pt cruiser is its combination of practicality and reasonable price. Its affordability and practicality make it suitable for everyday use by everyday people. When it comes to automotive styling, however, pictures speak louder than words. Yet with 63 inches from pavement to the highest point of its roof, the cruiser is also 7 inches taller than a neon, and nearly as tall as some minivans. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design.  the pt cruiser has a thorough complement of safety features. Front passenger side-impact airbags are standard on the limited edition and optional on the other models. Seatbelts should always be worn, however, and the pt cruiser comes with three-point safety harnesses at all positions-including the rear seat's center position. The front belts have pyrotechnically charged tensioners, just like luxury cars, to keep the belts tight during an impact. The rear bench is equipped with child-seat tethers. interiorinside, the cruiser's t-shaped symmetrical dashboard uses painted inserts to pull exterior styling themes into the cabin. The instrument panel is clean, functional and aesthetically pleasing. The driver faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right and fuel and water temperature left. Switches are concentrated in the center panel, with radial-type climate control dials and a single pair of buttons for the front windows. The door levers have a nice action and the switches operate with good tactile feel -- not world class, but a noticeable improvement over chrysler's sloppy mid-'90s standard.  the same improvement applies to the interior finish. The leather package, in particular, has a rich appearance, given the cruiser's price, with suede inserts in the doors and along the lower cushion edges.  the front seats have a reasonable amount of bolster to keep driver and passenger from sliding side to side. Perhaps more important, the seating position is upright, with a fairly high, commanding view ahead, much like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. And with 120. 2 cubic feet of interior volume, there's no premium on space in the pt cruiser. The government's standard for defining a large car, like the mercedes-benz s-class or lincoln town car, is 120 cubic feet.  all that space is largely a function of the cruiser's height. Its roof rises toward the rear, and its rear seat bottoms are higher than those in front are. The front seats are mounted on tall boxes, leaving plenty of room for rear passengers to stretch their legs underneath. An auto critic who stands six feet-nine-inches tall fit comfortably front or rear, in his preferred upright seating position. A passenger-side armrest has been added along with an underseat storage bin.  chrysler claims the pt cruiser's cabin can be configured 26 different ways. We didn't count, but there are clearly a lot of options. This flexibility stems from three features: a 65/35 split rear bench that can be folded flat, tumbled forward or removed, a movable parcel shelf, and an available front passenger seat that folds flat. The rear seats are anchored with quick-release attachments, and fitted with suitcase-style handles for lifting and steel wheels for rolling. The smaller section weighs 35 pounds, and the larger, 65. The load floor measures 40 inches between the wheel wells. The rear cabin has lots of tie-downs, including a pair on the center pillars that can be used with various seat configurations.  the parcel shelf and front passenger seat increase hauling options. The shelf can be positioned at the top of the rear seatbacks for a standard privacy cover over the cargo hold. It can be lowered to a level that creates a flat floor when the rear seat backs are folded forward. In can be installed vertically across the width of the cabin to divide the cargo hold, or hung out of the tailgate as a small table. It can also be turned over so its hard-plastic underside acts like a large tray, containing drops from dripping paint cans or mud from work boots.  with the front passenger seatback folded flat onto the bottom cushion, there's a table next to the driver and in front of the rear passengers. Even better, there can be more than 8 feet of flat surface between the dashboard and the tailgate. Tipping the scales at about 3123 pounds with the manual transmission, the pt cruiser sports a power to weight ratio of about 21:1. The 2. 4 happens to be the base engine in chrysler's minivans; for the cruiser, improvements were geared toward reducing noise and vibration rather than increasing power. Peak horsepower remains at 150, with 162 foot-pounds of torque. The shifter is surprisingly precise; it's not sports-car grade, but not bad for a longer-throw gate with a lever that's a foot long. Working the gears to get the most from the engine is a pleasant proposition in nearly all circumstances.  the automatic isn't as effective as the five-speed at getting the cruiser cruising, because the power is biased toward higher rpm. With properly timed dips of the accelerator, there's enough torque for safe, clean overtaking on two-lane roads.  the cruiser handles more like a sedan than a minivan. It will hustle with good composure and reasonable verve. Body lean is well controlled. By design, the cruiser understeers moderately, a push that warns a driver to slow down through curves. The cruiser's strut-type independent front suspension is similar to the neon's. Its rear suspension design maximizes cargo space, but the solid rear axle bounces a bit on rough pavement. Overall, however, chrysler's suspension engineers have delivered a good balance of handling and a comfortable ride.  they've also done a fine job of masking the cruiser's height. Only in quick, hard, slalom-type maneuvers does the pt cruiser start get top heavy. Yet most drivers will never drive hard enough to notice. And in sudden, emergency-type lane changes, the pt cruiser is more composed than the typical sport-utility or minivan. At speeds beyond legal interstate limits, the cruiser is stable, and not particularly susceptible to cross winds.  a lack of noise may be the most impressive, or surprising, of all the pt cruiser's qualities. 2002 ford f-150 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. This means the overall length and wheelbase can vary tremendously, the latter from 120 inches to 157. 4. lineupthree engines are available: the standard engine for the base-level xl is a 4. 2-liter v6 that generates 202 horsepower. A 4. 6-liter v8 rated at 231 horsepower is optional in xl models and regular cab xlt, and standard in all others. A 5. 4-liter v8 rated at 260 horsepower is available as an option for most f-150s. All three cab styles are offered in xl, xlt, and lariat trim levels; supercabs and supercrews can be promoted to ultimate king ranch status, with leather captain's chairs, premium audio, and unique identification.  i love the supercrew, which features luxurious rear-seat accommodations that can be converted into covered cargo storage. Overall length is kept reasonable by using an ultra-short bed that measures just 5 1/2 feet. The bed is a compromise, but it relieves the driver of the daily burden of maneuvering a pickup that's as long as an aircraft carrier. The top-rung lariat supercrew is equipped like a luxury sport-utility, with handsome leather upholstery, power-adjustable pedals and an optional moonroof and rear-seat entertainment system.  for 2002, even base-level xls are air conditioned. Power-adjustable pedals are standard on all lariat models and optional on xl and xlt trim lines. Antilock brakes (abs) are standard throughout the f-150 line, and remote keyless entry is now a standard feature on xlt models.  with colors and options thrown in, the model matrix is huge. And this matrix includes some specialty models.  new for 2002 is the fx4 off-road package, which includes 17-inch cast aluminum wheels with exposed lug nuts, rancho-brand shocks, three skid plates, a 3. 55 axle and p265/70r17 white-outline tires. The fx4 package is available only on 4x4 models, but the package price ranges from $620-$1165 depending on trim level and body style.  the high-performance svt lightning, packs a supercharged 5. 4-liter v8 rated at 380 horsepower and 450 foot-pounds of torque. Specialized wheels, tires, and suspension are calibrated more for handling than for hauling. This limited production image-generator is available only as a 2wd regular cab on the 120-inch wheelbase.  also available for 2002 is a new limited-edition ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew. It features a supercharged 5. 4-liter triton v8 engine, unique styling cues and a new color option: dark shadow grey. The 2002 ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew is the third truck jointly developed by ford motor company and harley-davidson motor company. (it joins two other limited-edition models: the 2000 ford harley-davidson f-150 super cab and the 2001 ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew. walkaroundthe f-150 is a stylish truck, one that pays more serious attention to aerodynamics than either the dodge or gm pickups. It is rounder, friendlier and looks more like a car than the dodge, chevy, or gmc. That may be part of the reason it outsells all other pickup trucks by a considerable margin. The current chevrolet and gmc trucks are still pretty new (they were redesigned for the 1999 model year), but their conservative styling doesn't look as modern as the ford's. The dodge ram has been redesigned for 2002, but retains a retro look that won't appeal to everyone (at least not as intensely as it appeals to its die-hard fans).  the f-150's aerodynamic hood falls away very rapidly from the base of the windshield, so it's easier to see what's immediately in front of the truck; that's handy for maneuvering off road, for parking, and when navigating in tight city traffic. Like the ram, however, its fenders seem to fill small rural roads. In tight quarters, this feels like a big truck.  the 2002 ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew incorporates styling cues of the past with an innovative flair. The front end of the vehicle features a new upper chrome billet grille, clear-lens headlamps and clear-lens parking lamps embossed with the harley-davidson bar & shield. For 2002, a distinct rivet design surrounds the center of the 20x9-inch five-spoke chromed cast-aluminum wheels, complementing the center caps that display the harley-davidson bar & shield. Flame pin striping and chrome accessories complement the overall package. As in the past, the ford harley-davidson f-150 supercrew is lowered one inch. It features a specially tuned exhaust system with a dual inlet/dual outlet muffler, ending in chrome 3 1/2-inch 'slash cut' exhaust tips. interiorthe f-150 takes its interior design cues from the company's successful passenger cars, such as the ford taurus and lincoln continental. The designers adapted these cues to the pickup's larger cab. The curves, surfaces, textures, instrumentation and graphics inside the f-150 are more adventurous, more modern, and in some ways better executed than the gm and dodge, big and bold but not outsized for a big vehicle.  the mid-range f-150 xlt has dual air bags with a passenger-side deactivation switch. They offer a lot of interior space for the money. The xlt's cloth seats recline, and a lumbar support on the driver's side provides even more driving comfort.  all ford pickups share another trait: a relatively high ride height, even on 2x4 models. Getting into and out of the rear seats was easy. The rear seats are comfortable and offer good legroom, allowing passengers to slide their feet under the front seats. Adults should be able to ride back there for longer trips. It's also a nice place to change into and out of driver's suits when we go racing.  supercrew's rear seats fold down (and are split 60/40), offering a nearly flat luggage space. It's a great place to put cargo or big dogs. I like putting all my equipment back there when i go fly fishing. Small storage compartments behind the front seats add utility. This is because they use conventional steel leaf springs at the rear.  up front, the 2wd pickups use a coil-spring independent suspension, while the 4x4 versions use a torsion bar front suspension.  power steering is over-assisted, to make it easier to park and maneuver in tight quarters.  we find the brakes on ford trucks to be average in stopping power and average in fade characteristics.  although the optional 4. 6-liter v8 engine is rated 231 horsepower and 293 foot-pounds of torque, we don't think it's as good a performer in many respects as the small v8 engines from gm and dodge. It's a good, solid engine, with millions of examples on the road, and it sounds good at full throttle, but we find it a little duff for all-around street use, and we would certainly find it wanting if we had to haul anything heavy or tow a trailer up a mountain road. For any customer contemplating those kinds of duties, the 5. 4-liter v8 engine is a much better choice. summaryford's f-150 is still among the most car-like of the full-size pickup trucks, with slick looks, pleasing performance, a comfortable cabin, and a proven powertrain.  ford's new f-150 supercrew is the most comfortable of the light-duty crew cabs currently available. model lineup4x2 styleside 120-in. 2007 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Retrowagon, and gangster convertible. introductionthe chrysler pt cruiser combines the retro look of late-'30s american iron with modern performance, efficiency and features. The pt cruiser comes in two body styles, a versatile five-door model and a not-so-versatile two-door convertible.  after a significant facelift for 2006, the 2007 chrysler pt cruiser remains relatively the same with a few additions to colors and features. New for 2007 are a few additional exterior colors and features, including a now-standard remote keyless entry on the base model and a standard console flood lamp on all models. The power liftgate comes standard for 2007.  the five-door model's tall body boasts lots of room for people and cargo. In fact, its interior volume and versatility compare well to a small suv. Yet the pt cruiser is small and easy to park.  it's also easy on gas. The lower-level models are competitively priced, and we think they make the most sense. Turbocharged models put fire under the hood, but they're pricey.  the pt cruiser convertible is one of the least expensive convertibles on the market. Its trunk is tiny and awkward, however; in fact, we can't think of a trunk that's less convenient than the one on the cruiser convertible.  the pt cruiser doesn't fit within existing automotive marketing segments, but competes on some levels with the chevy hhr, the scion xb, and the mini cooper. Like them, it is essentially a car: the pt cruiser is based on the dodge neon, a compact car noted for sprightly performance. So it drives like a car, though the handling is not as good. Cruiser is an appropriate name. lineupthe 2007 chrysler pt cruiser comes in two body styles: a five-door hatchback/wagon chrysler calls a sedan; and a two-door convertible. Both prices include automatic transmission; a manual gearbox is not available with this engine. The gt also comes with side-impact airbags, a power glass sunroof, and most of the limited's luxury goodies. Leather sport seats are also standard. The gt convertible 29,825) comes with all the limited and gt sedan goodies.  optional on all convertibles and on limited and gt sedans is a 368-watt boston acoustics premium sound system 695). Sirius satellite radio is optional on all models 195, including a one-year subscribtion). Gps navigation 1,100) is available on limited and gt; so is uconnect hands-free, in-vehicle communications 360), which uses bluetooth technology to link the user's cellular phone with the cruiser's stereo speakers. Limited sedans can be ordered with plastic woodgrain exterior accents 895). Many of the standard features on higher-line models are also available as options on the less expensive models.  safety features include front side-impact airbags, standard in gt and limited and optional 390) on the other models. Three-point safety harnesses are provided at all positions, including the rear center position, so be sure to wear them. The front belts have pyrotechnically charged tensioners, just like in luxury cars, to tighten the belts for the initial stages of an impact. The rear bench is equipped with child-seat tethers. walkaroundthe chrysler pt cruiser blends the retro look of a late-1930s or early 1940s american sedan with new-age styling cues such as dual-beam flush headlights and teardrop-shaped taillight lenses.  the look was refined beginning with the 2006 models, but not drastically changed. The horizontal-themed grille does not extend below the bumper as on older models and it's topped by a prominent chrysler eagle and flanked by gently scalloped headlamps. Round foglights frame a horizontal slot in the bumper. Around back, a body-color spoiler on the liftgate is said to improve aerodynamic efficiency.  in terms of exterior dimensions, the pt cruiser is quite compact. It's shorter in overall length than most compact sedans, but it's relatively tall. Measuring 63 inches from the pavement to the highest point of its roof, it's nearly as tall as a minivan. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design.  the design of the convertible is quite a bit different from that of the sedan. The convertible looks shorter than the sedan, but it isn't; maybe it's the single long door on each side that creates this illusion. It's lower, however, by almost three inches, which certainly alters the looks. But there's a lot more to it than that: close examination reveals that the windshield is raked more radically and uses a different a-pillar design.  with the top up, the convertible looks like a custom chopped-top hot rod. And it looks pretty cool. Drop the top and the gangstermobile turns into a chick car. With its top down, the pt cruiser convertible's high tail and integrated sport bar remind us of the old volkswagen cabrio. But where the vw's side windows sealed against its sport bar, the chrysler's windows seal against each other for a more modern convertible profile. Its slightly narrower and color-keyed sport bar sits behind the windows, inside the car, and is aerodynamically designed to minimize wind noise. A nice boot is provided that dresses up the appearance with the top down. interiorthe pt cruiser pulls its exterior styling themes into the cabin, although here, too, the retro theme is tempered a bit by a very modern-looking center stack that visually splits the vintage-styled dashboard.  the driver faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right, and fuel and water temperature left. Accessory switches are concentrated in the center panel, with radial-type climate control dials at the bottom. Window switches are high in the center stack, inconvenient for quick operation, forcing the driver to search for them. The door levers have a nice action, and the switches operate with good tactile feel, though they're not world class. The standard stereo sounds tinny; we haven't tried the boston accoustics system. Also, there's a separate set button for the station presets, fussier than simply holding the preset down.  a bonus of the cruiser's tall profile is its upright seating position, with a fairly high view ahead, somewhat like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. The gt also features a leather wrapped steering wheel with satin-silver spokes, and bright accents on the pedals.  the center console incorporates a sliding armrest, replacing the seat-mounted armrests provided previously. The pt's console also includes a covered tray for concealing small items, a storage bin that holds six cds, a coin holder and fold-out cup holders for rear-seat coffee consumers. A cell-phone charger is optional.  roominess is a virtue in the cruiser. The sedan's 120. 5 cubic feet of interior volume is comparable to that of large cars such as the mercedes-benz s-class or lincoln town car, though it certainly doesn't have the ambience of those cars. Much of that space is a function o.

2009 chevrolet hhr review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Utility and efficiency with style. introductionthe chevrolet hhr is a car-based retro-wagon that celebrates its chevy heritage with styling inspired by the iconic 1949 suburban. Hhr stands for heritage high roof, a reference to the early high-roofed suburbans and panel wagons that inspired its design.  based on the same platform as the chevrolet cobalt, the hhr was first launched as a 2006 model. The hhr is similar in concept to the chrysler pt cruiser.  we found the chevy hhr fun to drive. It isn't a sports car, but it's nimble and we were pleased with its acceleration. The hhr feels more responsive than its horsepower, torque, and transmission ratio numbers suggest. Plus, it gets decent fuel economy.  the hhr panel van features smooth, windowless side panels and side cargo doors with no handles. The cargo doors open via an instrument panel button. While it's plainer inside and provides seating for only two, the panel best exemplifies the early suburban heritage.  the hhr ss is the most fun to drive of the hhr models, launching quickly off the line and offering sharp handling. On an autocross circuit, we found the ss model handled like a sports car.  the hhr interior isn't as functional as we'd like, however, and the base cloth fabric left us wishing we'd ordered the optional leather.  the 2009 hhr is unchanged in any major way over the previous model, but there are numerous detail changes and upgrades. Standard on all 2009 hhr models are xm satellite radio, anti-lock brakes, stabilitrak vehicle stability control system with traction control, and roof-rail side-curtain airbags. The 2. 2-liter engine delivers more power and better fuel economy for 2009, and there is e85 flexfuel capability on the 2. 2-liter and 2. 4-liter engines. Options for the ls include remote start, the automatic transmission 1,000), running boards, a spoiler, and a variety of other factory and dealer-installed features and accessories.  the hhr lt 20,720) adds remote start as standard, an eight-way power driver's seat, driver's lumbar support, and the availability of many more optional extras, including a bright chrome appearance package, which includes 16-inch chrome alloy wheels, and the sun and fun edition, which includes sunroof and the 16-inch wheels.  the hhr 2lt adds the lt equipment group 1,700), which includes the 2. 4-liter engine, 17-inch chrome alloy wheels, fog lamps, running boards, fe3 sport suspension, bluetooth connectivity, leather-wrapped steering wheel, auto-dimming mirror, and a pioneer audio system with seven speakers and 260 watts.  the hhr ss 24,815) adds the turbocharged engine, performance handling suspension, 18-inch polished alloy wheels, ss embroidered seats, a rear spoiler, and other items. Optional on the ss is the performance package 895).  the hhr panel comes in ls 19,030), lt 21,030), and ss 25,135) versions. Options and prices for the panel are the same as for the equivalent levels of the non-panel versions.  safety features include front airbags, front and rear side-curtain airbags, anti-lock brakes, stabilitrak electronic stability control with traction control, and tire-pressure monitoring. walkaroundwe like the retrospective styling of the chevy hhr. The closest comparison is the chrysler pt cruiser, another retro-styled utility vehicle with good fuel efficiency.  the rounded nose of the hhr is not unlike chevy's ssr, which also reflects the brand's truck heritage. The hhr's fenders are well defined, with flat side wheel-well openings contrasting favorably with the vehicle's many curved, contemporary sculpted surfaces. Front and rear bumpers and fog lamps are integrated into seamless fascia, with nostalgic integrated running boards. The flush glass all around, including the windshield, is a nice touch, as are the headlights surrounded by body panels in old school fashion. The taillamp treatment consists of two round vertically stacked lenses on each side. The large, prominent grille is chrome, (except on the ss model), and appears much like that of the 1949 suburban.  front and rear bumpers are molded from composite material, integrated as part of their respective fascia. It provides lots of room and functionality without being boxy. When viewed from a distance, the hhr looks larger than it really is. Examined closely, it's compact. The cargo doors open wide, enabling cargo access from both sides of the vehicle, as well as from the rear liftgate. The cargo doors are smooth and don't have external handles; they are opened via a dashboard release button or the remote keyless entry fob. The large, continuous area created by the windowless cargo doors and rear panels is ideal for business logos, advertising or personalization. Side visibility is obviously limited due to the solid sides without windows; one must rely primarily on mirrors for backing maneuvers. The smooth, windowless sides on the panel give it a cleaner, retro, more hot rod look than the standard models. The lack of windows adds security for contents inside.  the hhr ss sits lower than its stable mates, but sports extended front and rear fascias that give it the appearance of riding much lower. The front fascia features an air-dam design with integrated fog lights, and the grille comes with mesh-style upper and lower grille inserts. The new rear fascia provides a cutout for a single bright exhaust tip. Rocker moldings somewhat resemble accentuated running boards. Out back, a rear spoiler is mounted above the rear glass. Body-color door handles, mirror caps and the rear license plate surround, along with ss badging on the front doors and liftgate, further differentiate the ss from the others. interiorinside, the chevy hhr provides, for the most part, comfortable and functional surroundings. Included are durable, easy-to-clean cargo surfaces, a front passenger seat that folds flat for more cargo space, a 60/40 split/fold-flat second-row seat, and a multi-position cargo package tray in the rear that provides cargo security. Speaking of headroom, there isn't a lot of it, in spite of the high roof. There's a handy flip-up compartment on top of the dash and a small glovebox. The rear provides one cupholder and small door pockets. The rear seat, split 60/40, folds flat very easily, as does the front passenger seat, and, since the 60-percent side of the rear seat is on the left, a long item like a ladder can be slipped in diagonally, a nice feature. The rear cargo floor flips up to reveal a five-inch-deep tray useful for storage. The rear liftgate is one piece and raises easily.  the hhr panel provides seating for two and a large, flat cargo floor with tie-down points to help hold things in place. The hhr panel cargo area features a standard auxiliary power outlet, as well as a 40-amp auxiliary power connector to provide service for a variety of specialty equipment needs. Two large storage compartments, with a lockable option, are located forward under the cargo floor (in place of the rear seats of the passenger models). The compartments offer security for things such as computer equipment, flashlights, service manuals and other valuables.  the hhr ss features a special interior with ss-embroidered sport seats with inserts, a specific gauge cluster, an a-pillar-mounted turbo boost gauge and a new shifter arrangement.
